Deconstruction , reconstruction.

During this peoject we had to create a garment out of old clothes and fabrics, i started off with a short collage exercise, i photocopied some of my old clothes and garments and then cut them up to create some almost abstract collages, it helped me work out what peices and colours went together and what details worked with other features for example i liked how the zip created stong lines against the wool texture as it gave it some structure. Working on the mannequin helped me work out what peices garments and materials went with eachother and how the different fabrics fitted and hung off the body. I chose one to focus on and devloped the design further. I chose to hang and add some blavk trousers over the shoulder of one of my designs as i didnt want to use them for their original use, after cutting and fitting i then grabbed some other features i liked from my other designs and created a final garment witch is the mostly black jacket like garment with the flannel plaid hanging underneath the back part of the jacket.

3 words project.

For this project we had to select three words from a list we were given. Nick Knight, smooth and reflecion where my three words. When experimenting on the Mannequin with calico it was important to keep these 3 words in mind, Nick Knight has a very extravagant  and distinctive style so i didnt want to create any normal looking designs but i still felt it important to keep my style in the designs. Reflection is an element i always include in my designs as it has been for a while now so adding that element came naturally. After devloping an idea on the Mannequin i then went to use it almost as an advanced starting point, i tested a few colour ways but then wanted to create a design that would fit onto my garment, one thing that came into mind was tribal paints and how such tribes as the aborigines use white paints on the skin, after researching further, i made some tests onto blavk card, the selecting a few successfull prints i then applied them to my final garment. When finding smaples for the garment i knew i wanted it to be black or atleast a dark colour, i came across some black leathers that would work exteamley well with my design, however i needed a good enough quality of leather for the garment so it would hang on the body in the way i wanted it to, and i came across a perfect leather that was flexible and to a good quality so it would not look or feel stiff when being worn. However after creating the print i decide in the end to scrap it as i thoight it looked better as an all black garment without any prints or deaigns, but it was good to experiment and see different outcomes for my final design.

Prada group project.

For this project our group had to design garments and create a promotion campaign for a certain brand, ours was Prada, we knew we had to stick to paradas very high fashion style so this was one of our main aims going into the project. as part of the design team i was incharge of menswear, i wanted my designs to fit pradas style but i wanted to let some of my own style shine through. When designing the outwear, i wanted the coats to be quite long fitting with strong should peice to really make the designs more masculine. I gatherd inspiration not just from previous prada designs but i looked into the renaissance era in italy. I also wanted a small recurring feature to be seen so i included a thin gold band just above the wrist on each of the coats. I wanted the jumpers to have a little more colour than the coats so they would show through when the coats were open, i didnt want the colours to be too bright so by using the dark blue and ox blood red i think it gave the designs a more formal feel.
